Witchstream is a media player. It is built so that we, the people who make it, never receive your data. There are no accounts with us, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
What we collect
Nothing. We don't run servers that receive information from the app. We can't see what you watch, search or save.
What stays on your device
Your profiles, lists, progress, history, likes, settings, sources, keys and downloads are stored on your device.
Services the app talks to on your behalf
To work, the app connects directly from your device to services you choose or that provide film information. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Your stream sources (addons, media servers, playlists) that you add yourself. They receive the requests needed to find and play titles.
- Stremio's Cinemeta for film and series information and images.
- TMDB, only if you add your own TMDB key, for lists, details and people.
- OpenSubtitles (or the subtitle source you set) to find subtitles. When exact matching is on, a fingerprint of the video file is sent so the right subtitles can be found.
- YouTube, only when you open a trailer.
- TV guide providers (for example epgshare01) when you use Live TV.
- Your debrid service, only if you set one up in your source.
Sync
Sync is off unless you turn it on. When on, your profiles, lists and progress are stored in your own Firebase project, which you create and control with your Google account. We have no access to it. Firebase is a Google service; its terms and privacy policy apply to your project. You can delete the data at any time by deleting your Firebase project.
Home network features
Play on TV and the phone keyboard work only on your home network. The TV announces itself on your local network while the app is open; phones you pair receive a code stored on the TV. Nothing about this leaves your network.
Permissions
- Internet to reach the services above.
- Notifications (phones) for download progress and new episode alerts, if you allow them.
- Microphone (TVs) only when you press Voice search, through the system's own speech recognition.
- Local network for Play on TV.
Children
Witchstream is not directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly handle children's data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
